AseraCare Hospice, an Amedisys Company, is looking for caring, compassionate people, (must be at least 16 years old) to volunteer some of their time with our patients. Volunteers can assist with administrative duties, or visit or call patients.
Examples of administrative duties would be preparing bereavement materials to be sent to families, making telephone calls to check in on current patients, preparing admission packets and assisting with community events.
When a volunteer visits a patient it is usually for companionship. Volunteers can talk about things the patient enjoys or reminisce about things in the past. Some patients enjoy playing cards, assembling a puzzle or having the newspaper or a magazine article read to them. Volunteers can also help the patient's care givers by staying with the patient so the caregiver can leave the home to run an errand or even just take a walk outside.
Volunteers are also needed to assist staff in the "We Honor Veterans" program. Volunteers can assist in presenting veterans with a certificate and pin, thanking them for their service. You do not need to be a Veteran to participate in this program.
Volunteers who have a special skill or talent like, singing, playing an instrument, is a licensed beautician, barber or manicurist are also needed.
AseraCare provides services for patients in York, Adams, Franklin, Cumberland and Perry counties.
There is an application process and a training program provided at no cost to you. If you are interested in volunteering with AseraCare Hospice or would like more information, please call Mary Snyder, Volunteer Coordinator at 717-845-8599 or email Mary at mary.snyder@amedisys.com. Thank you. We look forward to hearing from you!
