Church of Greater Works was organized in April 2000. Prior to that, Pastor Edward's ministry from 1989, involved going onto skid row in passenger vans to pick up the homeless and taking them to various churches.

On August 11, 2010 an arsonist started a fire which quickly engulfed the building.

Church of Great Works has continued to hold services for the homeless and its children on the sidewalk across from the church while options are considered.

Pastor Edwards states, "God through his people will restore what the devil meant for evil. We did not have insurance, but watch God make beauty from ashes. He has done it before for others, so he will do it for us."
